The Metta Center provides unique and innovative training in spiritual direction (also known as spiritual companionship or guidance). We offer two types of training:
• Personalized (customizable) training in spiritual direction, 1-on-1, using a mentorship (apprenticeship) model.
• Advanced and specialized training for those who've already received formal training in spiritual direction
The Metta Center was founded in 2023 by Dr. Janice Lundy, a lifelong educator, long-term spiritual director in private practice, and trainer of spiritual companions. Learn more about her here.
The Metta Center offers online learning, and is ideal for international students. Our trainings are a perfect fit for spiritual seekers who lead busy lives and need a flexible learning platform.

Why "Metta"?
" Metta" is the Pali word for "unconditional friendliness." It has also been translated as "loving-kindness." This hails from the Buddhist tradition and is applicable to all spiritual paths and persuasions. Within the Jewish tradition, we might speak of it as "chesed" (giving oneself fully, with love and compassion). In Celtic Christianity, we might speak of it as "blessing." Each of the world's wisdom traditions is sourced in compassion, generosity and mercy—foundational aspects of Metta.
At the Metta Center, everything we do and provide is rooted in this philosophy and practice. We are open and affirming to all people—no matter one's religious, spiritual or ethical persuasion. We embrace a model of heart-centered, whole person care for all beings everywhere.
