The Metta Center was founded in 2023 by Dr. Jan Lundy (Psy.D., D.Min., M.P.C.) a lifelong educator, long-term spiritual director (companion) in private practice and organizational service. She is a Grief Support Specialist and grief educator as well.
For the past 20 years, Jan has served as a supervisor, mentor and trainer of spiritual directors. She is currently the Gerald May Professor of Spiritual Direction and Counseling at The Graduate Theological Foundation.
Having experienced a great deal of loss in her own life, she knows firsthand the transformative power of healing through grief. Jan is the facilitator of Grief Companion Training.

As a spiritual director, grief companion, supervisor, musician, and self-taught artist, I find wonder and deep connection in the many ways Spirit intersects with our human experience. As spiritual companion, I allow ample room for the movement of Divine presence and listen alongside another as they explore their inner experience. Invitations to silence, creative practice, and movement often arise so listening is active and varied for both of us.
My practice of supervision offers space for interior exploration of the ways the work of companionship wakes us up first as spiritual beings ourselves, then as guides for others on the journey. This exploration then becomes an organic opening to the perpetual process of finding exactly who we already are as spiritual companions, helping to remove whatever is in the way of our most authentic service in the world.
Creative and contemplative practices are the scaffolding of my spiritual life, and I use both in my practice of spiritual companionship and supervision. My spiritual home is in mystic and contemplative Christianity; I also find aliveness in the wisdom streams connecting and feeding all spiritual and philosophical traditions, as well as in the natural world, poetry, and art.
As a spiritual companion I am deeply invested in the support of those in vocational ministry– chaplains, hospice staff, social workers, spiritual companions, clergy– and find it a great privilege to care for those who care for the world. My other abiding interests include enneagram wisdom, psychology, embodiment practices such as focusing, the spirituality of aging, engaging mystical experience, and navigating stages of faith.
At the Metta Center, I have created and currently facilitate Translating Our Grief, a course for integrating creative and expressive practices in Grief Companionship (beginning January 2025), as well as offer Supervision for students of Spiritual Direction and Peer-to-Peer Support for Spiritual Companions. (See Upcoming Trainings)
I received training through the Wellstreams Program on the Art of Spiritual Direction of the Spirituality Network in Columbus, OH; Interfaith/Interspiritual training through the Spiritual Guidance Training Institute; and Grief Companion Training through The Metta Center.
One-on-one session fee is a sliding scale of $80-$100, discerned by the student based on their individual financial capacity.
